Two Medals won at 2006 Summer Nationals!!!! Youth & Veterans make their mark.
Mark Wheeler won the silver in the veteran's (50-59) Men's Epee event in the tough field of 65 fencers, missing the gold in a hard fought battle with the legendary Olympian, Tim Glass. On the fourth of July 16 year old Guy Thompson took the bronze medal and earned the coveted "C" rating in the field of 211 in Div. III Men's Foil. TFC youngsters missed the fire works outside to cheer Guy on, all the way until the awards ceremony at 10 p.m.

TFC had a spirited showing at the biggest nationals ever, from our 9 year old foilist to supportive parents in red white and blue jackets to veteran coaches Natasha Maximovich and Connie Yu. Making the big trip with their parents were these fine young competitors: Tucker Atkins, Harry Issacs, Matthew Partida, Jacqueline and Joseph Young, Tiffany Ku and Jillian Liu -- the latter two girls fencing three events. The entire Chang family competed, and well! Jonathan was 28th in veterans foil (40-49), Lucy Lu was 13th in veteran's women's epee, Jason, 17th in Y12 foil, and Jerry made 14th (out of 173).
Congrats to Mark Wheeler and Guy Thompson, the inspiring medal winners, and to each one of the TFC fencers who traveled all the way to hot and steamy Atlanta and competed with dignity and good sportsmanship.
Almost A Great Season: Seventeen year- old Kersten Schnurle earned a "C" in both U19 foil and U-19 epee at the 2006 Junior Pacific Coast Champions, taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. She was number one in points Bay Cup Junior epee for the 2005-6 season. Kersten missed going to nationals (and fencing in 3 events) because she broke her foot (not fencing, tripping on a step). She'll be fully recovered in time to be a counselor at Camp Winabout.
